What does “sovereignty” really mean when we talk about artificial intelligence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s a word we use constantly, yet rarely stop to define. Technological sovereignty, legal sovereignty, economic sovereignty\u2026 each dimension matters in its own right, but they all converge on the same underlying question: values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Being sovereign isn’t just about building your own infrastructure or writing your own rules. It’s about operating within a space where the values that bind us together, human dignity, freedom of expression, the rule of law, pluralism, have room to exist and endure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A truly European AI isn’t simply an AI designed in Europe, hosted on European servers, governed by European regulations. It’s an AI that reflects the values of our society, one that fits within our social contract, rather than having its principles dictated from outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Getting there won’t be easy. No single law will do it, and no single technology either. It’s an ongoing, collective effort that touches industrial strategy just as much as democratic debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But perhaps that’s the real question behind digital sovereignty: a society’s genuine ability to define and safeguard the values it holds in common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
