After the attacks by US Vice-President J.D. Vance on our democratic values in Europe at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris and Munich, followed by criticism from Brendan Carr, head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), who at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona denounced the DSA as an excessive infringement on freedom of expression, the US administration is now attacking the Digital Markets Act, accusing this regulation aimed at regulating the major digital platforms of being a \u201cweapon against American companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This salvo of criticism is being used by the US administration to justify tariffs and other protectionist measures against the European Union, which they claim is guilty of targeting American companies with these regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to American pressure, Europe must stand united and defend its values in this economic confrontation with the United States. European digital regulations are first and foremost the result of a democratic process that cannot be held hostage to outside pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is a major issue for the future of Europe and its ability to respect its values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
